IRS Information Reporting and 1099 Compliance - What You Need to Know - Part One

Reporting compliance has long been a source of anxiety for the business owner as well as their accountant. The IRS has been increasing the penalties for failing to comply with these reporting requirements significantly in recent years. Are you sure that you know all the rules for reporting compliance in order to keep your client from being penalized? This course will cover the new deadlines that are now in effect in 2017, the purpose of 1099s, when you should issue them, deadlines and compliance rules. We will also cover the W9 form, backup withholding, reporting for foreign payees and the W-8BEN as well as using strategies of ID number matching.

Employment Tax Basics - What you Need to Know

The IRS is focused on closing the tax gap. One way it hopes to do so is to collect promptly on unpaid employment taxes. They have now issued new directives to pursue many employers at a pace we have not seen before in recent history. In order to keep your client out of trouble in this arena, it is imperative that you understand what employment taxes are comprised of, how they are to be filed and paid, and what compliance issues can get your client into trouble. If you don’t understand the rules properly you can inadvertently be getting your client into trouble without knowing it. Attend this basic overview seminar to learn what you need to know about employment taxes, the requirements for payment and filing employers must follow, as well as compliance efforts and issues that employers may face and strategies to help them resolve those issues.

Penalty Abatement Basics and Techniques

The IRS asserts millions of dollars of penalties against taxpayers daily. Many of those penalties are abated due to quality representation. In this course, you will learn about reasonable cause, first time abatement techniques, and other administrative options that may allow you to substantially reduce your client's penalties. We will cover these techniques and discuss how you can assist a client as their representative, or help your client to do it themselves.

Offer in Compromise - Overview of the Basics

This course provides a rapid fire overview of the Offer In Compromise (OIC) program for tax professionals representing taxpayers with unpaid federal tax obligations. This course discusses the pros and cons of the Offer program, the qualifications for filing a processable Offer, and the three different types of Offers. We will discuss the two current OIC payment options available to taxpayers, and the proper calculation of the all-important Reasonable Collection Potential. This course will briefly cover IRS rules for processing Offer applications, how the Offer investigation process works, and some helpful tips for writing better Offers. If you have always wanted to know some basics about how the Offer In Compromise program works, this course is for you.


Offer in Compromise - Advanced Course with Case Study

This course is a continuation of the Offer In Compromise - Intermediate Study Course. This course goes in depth with a case study that gives a hands-on approach to filling out the forms and preparing an OIC for a client. We will discuss techniques that you should be following to write better Offers to streamline the process for the IRS and the client. Follow a case from start to finish and you will see the numbers come alive before your eyes in the process, giving you a better idea how the OIC process works than simply going over theories. This is meant to be an advanced course to follow the Intermediate Study course, giving you numbers to work with so you can see how they work in the forms to produce the overall outcomes outlined. You will gain confidence in learning the techniques of writing an OIC through this advanced case study.

Minister and Clergy Tax Rules

While many tax preparers may understand basic concepts related to tax exempt churches or organizations, many fail to understand the exceptions and special rules that apply to ministers. This course reviews the tax rules for members of the clergy including minister’s housing allowances, fringe benefits and ministerial expenses as well as common expense issues.

IRS Information Reporting and 1099 Compliance - What You Need to Know - Part Two

This course is the second in the series that will help you master the rules for reporting compliance in order to keep your client from being penalized. This course will cover all seventeen different types of 1099 forms and when you should issue them, penalties, and techniques to correct incorrectly reported forms. We will cover proper 1099 preparation from forms you may be familiar with yet may be unknowingly making mistakes, to 1099s that you may not encounter as often and may be missing filing requirements on completely. This essential course will save you and your clients costly penalties well into the future by simply understanding the compliance requirements.

Trust Fund Recovery Penalty Basics

Congress passed a law that provides for the Trust Fund Recover Penalty (TFRP) to encourage prompt payment of withheld income and employment taxes and other taxes withheld. These taxes are called trust fund taxes because you are to actually hold the money in trust until you remit this money to the government. The IRS has gone as far as to issue new directives to punish employers that fail to do this properly by announcing that starting last year they will actively pursue many more employers for penalties at a pace we have not seen before in recent history, but what is of an even greater concern is that they are also planning on pursuing more employers on a criminal level as well. As a tax professional, it is imperative that you understand these rules - not only to keep your clients out of trouble, but to keep yourself out of trouble too. This course gives you all the detail that the Penalty Abatement Basics & Techniques course doesn’t cover. You will quickly review some of the basics, then you will follow a couple of cases in depth through the penalty abatement process and get a hands-on feel for how you would use first time abatement techniques and reasonable cause, methods to formulate your request, and the letters and samples showing what the process looks like from start to finish. If you want all the detail that a basic course can’t cover, this course is for you.

Offer in Compromise - Intermediate Study

This course is a continuation of the Offer In Compromise - Overview of the Basics program. This course goes in depth in considerations weighing the pros and cons of submitting an OIC for a client, and detailed information regarding the calculation of the RCP (Reasonable Collection Potential) that guides the OIC acceptance. We will cover the standards that exist for National, Regional, and Local areas, and how to determine these amounts, and tips in writing better Offers. This is course is meant to fill in the details from the Basic Overview course and give you the confidence to write your own Offers In Compromise knowing they will stand a greater chance of acceptance simply by following the techniques outlined.

Independent Contractor or Employee - What you Need to Know

Independent contractors can potentially save your clients money, but with increased IRS scrutiny, they could be at risk for increased penalties and liability. Can you be sure you understand the difference between an employee and independent contractor? This course will help you understand the differences and risks of misclassification, when to issue a 1099-MISC vs. a W-2, and learn practical hands-on tips to keep in compliance.
